Rodeo (is) Life
Professional Rodeo in Saginaw, Michigan

I love Rodeo 🤠 like Brick loves lamp.

It’s true Americana. The absolute fabric of the Americas, not just our America 🇺🇸. Many of the best competitors come from Mexico 🇲🇽, Argentina 🇦🇷, Brazil 🇧🇷, and Canada 🇨🇦.

The boys ride bulls🐂 and the girls race their horses🐴 around barrels. There’s no such thing as an adults-only rodeo, where the stands always have people from babies through seniors. There’s never anything said or referenced that isn’t entertaining and developmental for all ages. Veterans are celebrated, as are the otherwise unseen by city folk agricultural workers that feed us all. It’s the only large arena event where it’s a courtesy contest in the bathroom line, parking garage and concession stands. Kids and women go first, and dangerous men are seen smiling and shaking hands with strangers. All of my western interest has come as an adult, mostly thanks to my wife who brought two horses to a marriage that I brought two kids to. So know that you’re welcomed at anything like this with open arms your first time no matter age or demographic.

And if you don’t get the first reference, Ron Burgundy says you need a booster dose of Anchorman.

Check out part of the opening ceremony — always my favorite part.
